Robert Gruenbauer is an emcee from Guelph Ontario that goes by the name, "Robbie G."

He began making hip-hop music in 1994, recording tracks to play on the announcements at school using a karaoke machine, an old lamp (to hold the mic) and some duct tape. What started as a simple way to create awareness on a particular topic soon became an everyday enjoyment for Robbie G and he was instantly inspired and invigorated with the need to be on a mic sharing his thoughts. Growing up in rural areas of Ontario, Canada with little to no hip-hop scene it was hard for him to be heard by the local people and even harder to find quality hip-hop CD's in the stores. With the internet becoming more popular, he quickly went to his computer in search of hip-hop for listening and also for a platform he could use to promote and release his music worldwide.

Robbie has found the internet to be an essential tool in acquiring new fans and promoting his music. He learned early on that no one was going to come along and make all his dreams come true. He had to do this all himself and after reading the book "I Don't Need a Record Deal" he was convinced that the DIY approach was best. It became very overwhelming as he took on the role of booking agent, engineer, promoter....and musician but it helped him learn all the facets of the industry and develope a solid work ethic that would serve him well even to this day. After doing a handfull of shows in his local area, his eyes were set on Toronto, the big city! Using his online connections he got a few shows booked in the city and not to long after was noticed by a hip-hop camp called "I Respect Music" run by a woman named "Essence". Once they saw some of his performances and got to know the type of person he was they selected him to be a part of the team. This soon led to doing shows with such artists as Canibus, Killah Priest (Wu Tang Clan), Joell Ortiz, Scratch from the Roots, Kurupt, Choclair, Freeway, Illa J, Frank Nitt and many amazing Toronto artists.

With the confidence of having the respect of his peers and the constant practise in the booth recording 7 mixtapes Robbie G was ready to work on his first official Album. He has always worked on crafting music that truly reflects himself as a person and never wants to projects an image that is not a part of who he is, His music thus far had been a mix of thought provoking songs covering topics such as the time he spent in jail for selling drugs, the corruption in society and the government, the true essence of hip-hop being lost in todays music and also about having a good time with your life and enjoying the wonders of it.

Along with running the day to day operations of a studio and hosting a hip-hop Radio show at the University of Guelph, Robbie G is a large promoter for many local events is his area. some of the more recent people he has been working with are: Snak The Ripper, Zaze of 9-0-nickel, Mindbender Supreme, Mic Gutz, Molly Gruesome, Spesh K, Adlib, Nki-Louise and a list of over 100 other artists from across the globe Including Germany, France, Italy, the U.K., U.S.A. and more. He's shared stages with such acts as Scratch from The Roots, Joell Ortiz, Kurupt, Canibus, Killah Priest (Wu Tang Clan), Freeway, Choclair, Illa J, Frank Nitt, Angerville, Devilz Speciez, and many more.

"I really try to send a positive message in my lyrics and always stay true to myself. I talk about real life, good times...and bad times, but most importantly my goal as an emcee is to impact all the people in the world, inspiring them to believe that nothing is impossible and that if you dream big and work hard you will go far." says Robbie G. Many of his lyrics are focused around a deep sense of the importance of spiritualism and contemplating the reasons for existence. The artists Robbie G looks up to in the game are people such as Nas, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, a Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, EPMD, Guru & DJ Premier, The Fugees, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Styles P, Shad, Classified, Eternia, Hilltop Hoods...etc. He says "mostly all I listen to is people who talk truth through their words with conviction n passion behind it."
